What Is Your Story – How To Use Your History To Find Strength

You are unique. No one else has done what you have up to now. What is your story? Do a deep dive to find your ultimate inner strength.

Hi Trish Davies here, founder of Trish Davies International & Build Your AU. What is your story? This is something that you may have overlooked but it can help you find out who you are and how to leverage your talents and gifts.

Reinvention can be scary and intimidating. However it’s also exciting, liberating and empowering. From personal reinvention to career reinvention, everyone goes through this process at different points in their lives.

Approach reinvention as an adventure that will help you grow personally and professionally, and not as something to fear. We all have stories from our past that don’t exactly align with who we are now or where we want to go with our future.

Maybe you have a past job that doesn’t reflect where you are now. Or you didn’t go to college or grad school like your friends did.

Some people even have dark secrets from their past they’d prefer to forget about forever. There is no right way to look at your history; it’s just a part of who you are.

What Is Your Story? – Finding Strength In Your Past

what is your story

No matter how difficult or embarrassing your past may be, you can always find some way to relate it to your future success, even if it seems like a stretch.

The trick to finding strength in your past is to take your experiences and frame them in the present tense. Doing so will help you see how far you’ve come from your past self and how far you’re going in your future.

It’s easy to see someone else’s past as a weakness, but it can be empowering for you, too.

Write Down Your Past With A Pen & Paper

If you’re having trouble finding the connection between your past and present, try writing out the story of your life. Take everything you’ve done in your life and put it into chronological order.

If you’re struggling to remember certain events, there’s nothing wrong with looking through old photo albums or scrapbooks. Your past is an important part of who you are, and it deserves to be remembered.

Learn From It, Even If You Don’t Like It

Even if you wish you could erase parts of your past, there are still lessons to be learned from it.

Maybe you were fired from a past job and are now worried about how this will affect your career in the future.

Or you were unfaithful in a relationship and want to make sure you don’t repeat that mistake.

Whatever mistake or mistakes you made in the past, you can learn from them and make sure they don’t happen again.

Make A List Of Everything You Loved & Hated

love hate

When we’re trying to look at our past and future, it’s easy to focus on the negatives. However when we look at the good parts of our past, we can see how far we’ve come and how much has changed in our lives.

Maybe you had a job you loved but it went away due to a layoff. Or you had a relationship that ended badly but you learned a lot from it.

Take a few minutes to list out everything that you loved and hated in your past. This should help you find balance when looking at your history.

Look At What You Have Now, Not What You Don’t Have

Your past is a part of your history, but you cannot change it. It’s not helpful to dwell on what you don’t have or what you wish you did in the past.

It’s better to focus on what you do have now and what you want to achieve in the future.

If you didn’t go to college and your partner did, focus on what you have now and what you want for your future together.

If you had a low-paying job in your past, focus on the job you have now and what you want to achieve with your career in the future.

Reassure Yourself That Your History Will Make You Stronger

When you’re struggling to see how your history will make you stronger, take a minute to reassure yourself that you’re stronger than you were in the past.

You’ve overcome many obstacles in your life, and you’ve gotten through situations that seemed impossible at the time.

You’ve learned from your mistakes, and you’ve been able to move forward when things got tough.

Also you’ve grown and changed so much since you were younger, and you’re now a stronger, more resilient person. Your past will make you stronger in the future, too.
