Tap Into The Customer Mindset By Delving Deep Into Their Story Through Your Own
The customer mindset is very complex so here is where you can tap into their back story through your own.
I speak a lot about how your own story is one of the most powerful marketing strategies that you can use. Your potential customers want to know about you and your business before they make any decisions.
Therefore, the customer mindset can be very complex at times as they have objections to overcome. It is your task to help them overcome those objections and establish the element of trust. This happens by telling your story to help build that relationship and create a connection.
There are two sides to anything in life, so the business owner and potential customer relationship is no exception. I say this because you have a story and so does the customer. The perfect formula is when the two are the same or very similar.
In many occasions your ideal customer is going to reflect you as a person. Therefore, your products and services which have helped you, will help them in a similar way.
When you start telling your story it will trigger a series of events in the customers mind. So, what I am going to do in this post is reverse engineer the process. I want you to try and immerse yourself in the customer mindset. Maybe look at your own buying habits as it will give you some clarity.
Customer Mindset – A Rollercoaster Process
Emotions run high when people are looking for solutions to their problems. Basically, a transaction occurs when the solution is offered.
Sometimes people will not feel good about themselves. It could be health related such as being overweight, so they have a low self-esteem. Maybe they are addicted to something because they think it is the solution, but in fact it causes more problems.
Another example could be due to money. There may be a lack of it which creates panic on how to pay the bills and put food on the table. The other side of the coin is maybe they have too much and don’t know how to handle it.
Relationships stir up many emotions but when people are looking for solutions it means they are not in a good place. Things get very messy and sometimes things must get worse before they get better.
Whatever we experience in life generally fits into these three broad categories. Health, wealth and relationships and addressing emotions is the first part of the process.
The Desire Factor
Desire usually means that a person wants more in life. As regard to health they want to feel well all the time. Financially they want to be in a comfortable or affluent position and relationship wise they want to feel loved and happy.
That is a 35,000 feet overview and it seems simple when you look at it like that. As we know life is more complex and to meet those desires results on many different factors. Obstacles are constantly put in the way and therefore individuals look for solutions.
When this happens the individual resorts to looking for solutions which is where your story has the most impact. I will touch on this shortly, but the last point of the process is then being fulfilled.
Customer Mindset – Fulfilling That Desire
We have covered emotions and desire, so we need to fulfil the desire to quell the destructive emotions.
Your products and services will fill this void. When you can place in front of their eyes the solution, all the obstacles come tumbling down.
Again, I will say think about your own experience when you have purchased products and services. For here just concentrate on the fulfilment you received and bottle that feeling. This is what you want your customers to experience and to accomplish this you’re reverse engineering your own customer mindset.
Your Story Will Relate To Your Customers
When you tell your story to your potential customers, they will relate to what you are saying. You want to go into full detail of the problems that you were experiencing and how they were affecting your life.
Explain all the obstacles that you personally had to overcome and how you achieved this. Then go onto show how your life has changed for the better through the solutions that you found or created.
When you are creating your story focus on your customer mindset because it will be the same as your ideal customers. I think this is the best way to get into your customers head because you will connect with them. Always think of the customer and not as a business owner.
By reverse engineering, many of the elements of your story and the customers story will be the same.
Also, you will establish your authority because you have been there, done it and got the t-shirt. People will see that you are authentic and not some fake person who is in it for a quick buck.
