How To Develop A Content Creation Strategy To Establish Yourself As An Authority In Your Field

To establish yourself as an authority in your field you need to create engaging content therefore you must have a content creation strategy in place.

Establishing yourself as an authority in your field revolves around providing value to your potential audience. The best way to do this is to create engaging and valuable content therefore you must develop a content creation strategy.

Over the last three posts I have focused on the first pillar that a successful business sits upon. That is authenticity and I have looked at defining your purpose along with the talents and gifts you have. By doing this helps create your story which is the final piece in the authenticity puzzle.

What we are going to do now together is use this valuable resource to cement your credibility. In other words, build up your authority status to help attract the right audience to your business. This is what my Build Your AU Mastermind is focused on. Authenticity, authority and audience.

Have You Ever Gone Fishing?

fishing

The content that you are going to create is based upon your story and the many elements that make it up. I like to refer to these elements as hooks and the analogy I am going to use is fishing.

Whether you have ever fished or not you will understand how the process works. You cast your bait out into the pond and wait for a fish to take interest in it. Then it bites and you have it hooked but this may take some time to achieve. There will be parts of that pond which are more plentiful, and you will get more bites, so you start to target it.

In many respects business is like fishing in a pond because you must be very strategic. If you cast out a wide net, then a lot of your efforts are being wasted because not all the fish are interested in your bait.

The world population is nearing the 8 billion mark, but your audience is a microscopic portion of that. They are the only ones who are interested in what your message is and that is due to relevance. Your message must be right on the money for them to bite and your message comes from your story.

The hooks from your story are your bait and this is what you cast out to get those bites. I will cover how to find that part of the pond where your audience hangs out in the future, but you must create the bait first.

So, you have your overall story, but your hooks are mini stories that can be developed. Your story is unique to you, so it is hard for me to pinpoint one of your hooks, so I am going to use a broad example.

An Example Of A Hook

Say part of your story is that, when you were at school your teachers told you that you would never amount to anything. It hurt you at the time and effected your confidence. You then used that as inspiration to prove them wrong and later in life you met them by chance and had the pleasure of telling them they were wrong. Your mini story is what happened in between those two events. It is the perfect example of content that you can create and here is why.

When someone comes across your content and have experienced the same thing, they will instantly relate to you. You will have them hooked and they will want to know more about you. How you became successful maybe the basis for your products and services which could appeal to them. They could then become a lead which turns into a lifelong customer.

Hopefully you see the point that I am trying to make. Create content around your story and keep publishing it on a regular basis. As mentioned earlier I will help you establish where to cast your bait which is your content.

Inform, Entertain, Educate And Inspire

content creation strategy

It is important that you create different styles of content so that your readership and followers don’t become bored. I feel it is important to show a human side to the content that I create.

You will often see me create videos because that is where my audience can really get to know who I am. There is an instant connection because they can see that I am real person who is open and transparent.

Blogs like the one you are reading are also very powerful and as you have noticed I like to be personal. I always write as though I am speaking to a person, very much like having a conversation with a friend. There is nothing worse than reading someone’s blog and it comes across like you are reading from a textbook.

Your content must have a purpose and I can break it down into four main categories. You either want to inform, entertain, educate or inspire someone and again you can use your story to do all of these.

A great example in my opinion is a video that I did live on Facebook on Christmas morning. It covers all the categories in one full swoop so if you have a few minutes after reading this post you can watch it by clicking the image below.

Your Content Creation Strategy Must Follow A Structure

So, I have covered styles and the purpose of your content so I feel I should share a structure to use when creating your content.

Always have an introduction to your content where you explain what you are going to cover and why. It sets the scene, so the reader or viewer knows what to expect.

Addressing a problem is the next step because this is where it hits a chord with the person. They have something that they can relate to and it keeps them engaged and wanting to know more.

Then lead them into how you have found a solution. In many ways this will be the product or service you have created, or you have come across.

At this point it is important that you don’t go in for the kill so to speak. You don’t want to rely on telling them to buy the product or give you their email. The reason is because they don’t know what is in it for them and how they will benefit from it.

So, you explain how it has made a vast benefit to your life and how it has solved the problem you were experiencing. Then they will see how it can have the same impact on them.

It is then time to offer the solution and give them a clear call to action on where they can get it.

That is a simple structure to follow and it is how creative you are when crafting your content as to how successful you will be.

As you can see all content is not equal but content that comes from the heart has a massive effect. Use your story in your content creation strategy because it will have the most impact on the people you want to attract.
