Know like trust! Three very small words yet the most powerful you can have within your business structure. I say this because when you have built this up it is a powerful free marketing tool that explodes your business. The best thing about it is that it is free and other people do the heavy lifting for you.

To bring some context to what I am saying I am going to use three other small words as an example. They are “word of mouth” which is a from of referral marketing and the easiest way to gain new customers. This will only happen when you have the know like trust factor in you and your business.

Let me elaborate on this for a moment and ask you to look at your own buying habits. How many times in the past have you took the decision to buy something based on someone’s recommendation?

Now the recommendation can be based on two elements. The first is the brand of an item and the other could be the person or business selling it.

Know Like Trust – The Personal Recommendation

As an example, let’s just say you are in the market for a new car. Your friend has just bought a nice shiny new Lexus and they are singing its praises. Lexus is a worldwide brand that has built up the know like trust factor and they can nearly sell themselves.

So, this may make you think about looking at the Lexus range for your next car. That decision has been made but where do you buy it from? Your friend may have looked at a couple or more Lexus dealerships in your local area.

They may have had different buying experience when they visited the dealerships, the best experience is where they made the final purchase. So, they recommend that dealership for you to go to and secure your own deal.

That is referral marketing at it’s best. The brand sells itself because of the worldwide relationship it has built up. The dealer that gets the deal has worked harder on the customer experience it provides. As regard to the dealer that lost out, they have some work to do to gain the know like trust factor.

So that is an example of a personal recommendation but what happens in the wider reach and outside world. By this I mean the digital world we now live in. When individuals can’t get recommendations from the family then they look online.

Know Like Trust – Establishing It Online

Again, look at your own habits. If you are looking at a specific item, then you have probably looked for reviews online. What sways your decision? Probably the rating of the product itself but also the comments from the purchaser about the experience. If they publicly endorse the vendor, then you are more likely to buy from them.

The internet is a harsh playing field and can be quite a minefield, so you must work even harder to gain that know like trust factor. Human nature is that we are sceptical until we are sure of all the facts. Anyone looking for the products and services that you provide will compare you against your competitors. There is no shying away from it as you have probably done the same in the past.

So, this is where you must stamp your authority and show your authenticity to stand out from the crowd. Business owners who don’t do this or can’t be bothered are the ones who struggle in business. Your authority and authenticity will be self evident as you can’t make it up. Plenty of people try but always fall short.

The general public can spot the good and the bad apples from a mile off. They are attracted to good ones and forget about the bad. Saying this though they still need convincing.

This is your opportunity to seal the deal without selling but what do I mean by this. Sell you and not the product, They know what they want but not who they want it from. Once they find that out then they will endorse that person. Other people will see that endorsement and that will affect their buying decision. The result is more customers for you for no marketing efforts.
