Technology Challenges In Business | Move Website Hosting

Technology challenges in business can block the progress on your business. Do you put your head in the sand or tackle them head on?

Hi Trish Davies here from Trish Davies International. I’m out here out and about. We’ve had a week of rain and I’ve got one day here of sunshine before another week of rain. So, I thought I’d get on out here and share with you my recent and ongoing technology challenges in business.

For the last two weeks, I’ve been facing loads of technology challenges in business. No doubt you guys, as business builders will also face those technology challenges at some stage. Whether it’s in those early stages of building or just throughout in general.

I’ve got six websites that I have for my online business. You often hear me talk about them as real estate, digital real estate, because it’s your space online. It’s effectively your marketing, it’s your shop, it’s your e-commerce business. It’s where you make your sales.

You Must Protect Your Digital Assets

I’ve been hosting them with quite a small organization. They do hosting, but they also do online education and digital education as well. To be honest, they’re more known for their digital education than they are their hosting. You don’t really know that in those early days.

At first I wanted a company or an organization to host my websites and provide online business education. To provide coaching and other essential resources in those early stages. However, things change!

As you grow bigger, you realize that you become quite protective over those websites. You don’t want to have all your eggs in one basket. Especially with an organization that, you know, does lots of different things.

Recently I started to realize that it was important to find a hosting company that was big. That was huge, and that’s all they did, that’s what they specialize in. So, I did some research and found a hosting company that can do that. So, the story begins!

Technology Challenges In Business | Move Website Hosting

My first website to move hosting was Career Change For Accounts, I wanted to do one website first and the official term is called website migration. What this means is you transfer the domain name, but then also migrate the website at the same time.

So, it’s quite a process. I thought it would be quite uncomplicated and simple. However, it’s got its complexity to it. It’s taken two weeks to transfer and migrate one website. That’s because it’s the first one and it’s about all learning the different steps in the process.

My recommendation would be to as you go along to record by video or by Zoom. Record the process that you are doing or just take some notes, some simple steps.

I’ve done that and I have written some very simple steps down for when it comes to transferring the rest of them. Then I will know exactly what to do. So, yes it’s taken two weeks at this stage and I’m just waiting for confirmation that my domain name servers are pointing in the right direction. I don’t want to get too caught up in the technical jargon of this because that’s not my expertise.

I just simply followed instructions with the help of my Build Your AU members. It’s important to know that you will not always have all the answers, but others will, and others will help you.

Make Sure You Have Technical Support 24/7

Also, I am grateful of the  assistance of the hosting company that I’m going to. They are big and because they specialize in that, they provide a 24/7 live chat line which has been invaluable. Totally different to the hosting company I am leaving.

They only work 5 days a week, nine to five, and you must lodge a support ticket and wait for a response. There is no live chat which makes a huge difference if things go wrong.

If something goes down on your websites, if something happens to them you must have support 24/7. You must a support company that’s going to be able to provide that assistance for you, this is critical. Especially when it comes to hosting your own websites or creating, building, your own online business.

So that’s what I’ve been doing. It’s been taking a lot of my time. I’ve dedicated my evenings to that process, making sure step by step. Things are being done. Another important tip is to do with processes.

Write them down, sequence them in the correct order. That’s because you don’t want to make changes to domain names, to servers and websites, not knowing that they’re currently being transferred. Or they’re in the process of being transferred to the painting by getting at the moment.

So, yeah, it’s very important. It can be done. Don’t be scared to take that challenge on. I know as a business owner; you always have these challenges. You must tackle them head of head on. I tended to bury my head in the sand about it for some time now, and I knew it was a necessity to get it done.

I Decided To Take Action

So, I bit the bullet the other day, two weeks ago, and went for it. With the help of my members mastermind and with the help of the hosting company I’m able to get this done. Other websites will be released once the first one is completed, then they will be under the banner, under the one roof.

The new hosting company is huge and if they’re not going away any time soon. With the smaller hosting companies, you just don’t know what can happen. You can find yourself in a precarious position like I found myself in.

As a result, your digital space, your real estate, your websites are in control of somebody else. You just don’t want that happening. Imagine if you saw them going down at all for whatever reason.

It takes a lot of hours, a lot of investment hours to build and create websites. Therefore, it’s important to have them hosted with an organization that specializes in that.

So that’s my video share today. If you like what you hear. I’d love you to hit that subscribe button, that notification bell. You’ll then receive my weekly updates on YouTube.

Always face technology challenges in business head on. It is so satisfying to overcome those challenges, you learn new skills, you grow as a business owner.

A life of freedom and choice
